What is Filecoin?

Filecoin is a decentralized storage network where users pay FIL tokens to store data with a global network of storage providers, verified on-chain through cryptographic proofs. The Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM), launched in 2023, added EVM-compatible smart contract functionality on top of the storage layer — enabling DeFi, DAOs, and programmable storage deals. FIL is the native token for gas, staking, and storage payments. The network's unique position is being the largest decentralized storage provider in crypto, with use cases spanning archival data, scientific datasets, AI training data, and NFT metadata storage. The DeFi ecosystem on FVM is smaller than pure-finance chains, but includes liquid staking for FIL, collateralized lending, and infrastructure focused on storage-adjacent finance.

How to Bridge to Filecoin

1

Connect your wallet

Use a Web3 wallet like MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, or WalletConnect to connect to Oku. Make sure you have enough gas tokens on your source chain to approve and submit the transaction. Oku will detect your wallet balance and display tokens available to bridge.

2

Select your route

Choose Filecoin as your destination network and pick the token you want to receive. Oku automatically compares routes across integrated bridges to find the fastest and cheapest option for your transfer size.

3

Confirm and bridge

Review the estimated arrival time and output amount. Confirm the transaction in your wallet. You can track the bridge status directly on Oku until your tokens arrive on Filecoin.
