What is Hemi?

Hemi is a modular Layer 2 that treats Bitcoin and Ethereum as components of a single supernetwork. It provides an EVM-compatible execution environment with native visibility into Bitcoin state, allowing smart contracts to read Bitcoin data directly without trusted bridges or oracles — called the hVM (Hemi Virtual Machine). This enables Bitcoin-aware DeFi applications that couldn't exist on either chain alone. HEMI is the native token. The network's security model uses Proof-of-Proof, anchoring Hemi's state to Bitcoin for finality while inheriting EVM execution semantics from Ethereum tooling. The ecosystem focuses on Bitcoin-backed lending, BTC-denominated yield, and trust-minimized cross-chain applications.
