What is a DEX on Ethereum?

A decentralized exchange (DEX) lets you trade tokens on Ethereum directly from your wallet, with no account, no custody, and no middleman. Ethereum's DEX liquidity includes Uniswap and other onchain venues. Prices and depth differ from one venue to the next, so the best price isn't always in the same place. Oku aggregates Ethereum's DEX liquidity into a single interface: you enter a trade once, and Oku routes it for the best execution. You get the best price on Ethereum without checking venues yourself, and Oku charges 0% fees on top.

Why trade on Ethereum with Oku

What is Ethereum?

Ethereum is the original smart contract blockchain and the foundation most of DeFi is built on. It runs on Proof-of-Stake consensus secured by hundreds of thousands of validators, making it the most decentralized programmable chain in production. ETH is the native asset used to pay gas, stake for validator rewards, and serve as collateral across lending, derivatives, and stablecoin protocols. Ethereum hosts the largest stablecoin supply of any network and anchors the security of most major Layer 2 rollups, which settle transactions back to it. If a token exists anywhere in crypto, odds are its canonical version lives on Ethereum. For bridging, Ethereum is typically the liquidity hub — assets flow in and out of it to reach nearly every other EVM network.

How to trade on Ethereum

1

Connect your wallet

Use MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, WalletConnect, or another Web3 wallet. Make sure you hold a little ETH on Ethereum for gas.

2

Select your tokens

Choose what you want to trade. Oku checks Ethereum's DEXes and shows you the best available route and price for your size.

3

Confirm and swap

Review the quote and confirm in your wallet. Oku executes across the optimal DEX path and your tokens land in your wallet.

Frequently asked questions

The cheapest venue changes with each token and trade size, so there's no single "best" DEX. Uniswap carries deep liquidity on Ethereum, but Oku removes the guesswork: it compares Ethereum's DEX liquidity in real time and routes your trade to the best price automatically.

Ethereum's DEX liquidity includes Uniswap, Curve, Fluid and other onchain venues. Oku aggregates across them so you can trade the combined liquidity from one interface.

Oku is non-custodial: your funds never leave your wallet until a trade executes. You trade directly against the underlying DEX's audited contracts, and Oku only finds and routes the best path.

You pay Ethereum network gas plus the underlying DEX's swap fee. Oku adds 0% on top, with no platform fee.

Bridge assets to Ethereum from any chain using Oku's bridge, then trade them on Ethereum in the same app. You'll need a small amount of ETH for gas.

A DEX is a single exchange with its own liquidity. A DEX aggregator like Oku searches across many DEXes at once and routes your trade to the best combination, so you get a better price than picking one DEX yourself.
