What is BOB?

BOB (Build on Bitcoin) is a hybrid Layer 2 that combines Bitcoin security with Ethereum's EVM programmability. It uses a rollup architecture settling to Ethereum while maintaining deep integrations with Bitcoin — including support for BTC, Ordinals, BRC-20s, and Runes — aiming to be the connective layer between the two largest crypto ecosystems. ETH is the gas token on the EVM side, and BOB is the ecosystem token. The network's thesis is that most Bitcoin capital sits idle because Bitcoin lacks smart contract functionality, and BOB provides a path for that capital into DeFi without compromising on security assumptions. The ecosystem focuses on Bitcoin-backed lending, yield, and trading applications. For holders of BTC or Bitcoin-native assets looking for DeFi exposure, BOB is purpose-built for that use case.
